Founded in 1983, SAWS is celebrating its 31st year of existence. SAWS is a non-profit Society located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its mandate is to promote fine woodworking to the public and to raise interest in SAWS by encouraging membership.

Southern Alberta Woodworker's Society: January 21, 2015 Meeting Update

An addendum to the note about the regular monthly meeting January 21 at 7:00 pm.  The new name for Calmet is Performax.  Same address Performax Tooling Ltd, #40 3270 46 Avenue SE .



Owners, Kurt Collins and Guy Godbout, will explain the selection and
applications of wood cutting tools, including tablesaw blades, jointer knives
and router bits. Ceramic tipped tablesaw blades will be included. A
demonstration of sharpening tablesaw blades will follow.

Suggested access is Peigan Trail, south onto 36th St., then west onto 46th Ave.
Look for the brown brick building at 32nd Street.

Tier 2 Workshop January 31, 2015

Southern Alberta Woodworker's Society: SAWS January 21, 2015 Meeting

SAWS January meeting will be held at Calmet Industrial Supply located at #40  3270 - 46 Avenue SE commencing at 7:00 pm.  Calmet offers sharpening services for saws, planers and other devices.  Come along and learn how you dull circular saw blade is made new again.



Calmet is located south of Peigan Trail and east of Deerfoot.

SAWS December 10, 2014 Meeting

The SAWS December 10 meeting will be held at the Millican Ogden Community Centre 6901 - 20A St. S.E. commencing at 7:00 p.m.



As we have done in the past we are holding a joint meeting
with the Calgary Woodturners Guild.  Spouses are welcome to attend this social event, we will have food and refreshments for all.


Terry Golbeck will present a slide show and talk about his adventure on the Norwegian Woodworking Cruise this past
summer. 
 
Once again, we are asking members to share our good fortunes
with the more needy in the community, and we will be accepting donations to the Calgary Drop In Centre. 

SAWS November 19 meeting

The November meeting will be a  Show-and-Tell
event.   Bring your successes, failures, interesting tales, tall tales,
jigs, fixtures, etc.


 


The meeting will tentatively be held at the Millican Ogden
Community Association hall commencing at 7:00 PM at
 
6901-20A Street S.E.
Calgary, Alberta T2C 0R5


Map and directions will be included in the newsletter. 


The December and January meetings are also  being planned at
this same location.  From February onwards, we have confirmed that we are returning to the
Scarboro Community Hall


 

SAWS at Blackforest

SAWS was present at the October 24-26 Blackforest anniversary.  In addition to a display of past exhibition pieces several SAWS members were on hand to deliver presentations and live demonstrations.

October 15 Meeting Southern Alberta Woodworker's Society

SAWS October 15, 2014 meeting will be held at the Lee Valley store 7261 - 11 Street SE at 7:00 PM.  As this is after normal store hours you will need to knock on the front door to gain entry.



The guest speaker will be Vic Tesolin who is a Technical Advisor with Lee Valley Tools as well as a designer and craftsmen.




Vic will speak on the method of work he uses in his shop. Although he has an affinity for hand tools, he will discuss the value of big machines to hobbyists, the fundamental philosophies of hand tool woodworking, and hand tool use.
