Founded in 1983, SAWS is celebrating its 31st year of existence. SAWS is a non-profit Society located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its mandate is to promote fine woodworking to the public and to raise interest in SAWS by encouraging membership.

November 2013 - Marquetry, Sand Shading and Inlay

Gary Gunthorpe will discuss the basics of designing and implementing a simple Marquetry project using a modified 'window' method.  

Matt Smith will then conduct a demonstration on sand shading. This technique is often used to create fans, but can be used any time you want to create a sense of depth by creating the illusion of a shadow. He will show both how to create the shading and to insert the inlay
